Samma Ajeewa Society is a socially driven, non-profit initiative rooted in the Buddhist principle of “Samma Ajeewa”—Right Livelihood, a fundamental element of the Noble Eightfold Path. Established in the 1970s under the guidance and inspiration of Most Venerable Madihe Pannasiha Thero and Most Venerable Ampitiye Sri Rahula Thero, the Society continues to uphold the values and vision imparted by these great spiritual leaders. The Society is dedicated to promoting a life of ethical conduct, compassion, and selfless service, while supporting initiatives that enhance both the spiritual and social well-being of the community. Guided by the teachings of the Buddha, its work reflects the principles of generosity (dāna), morality (sīla), and mental development (bhāvanā), fostering a culture of mindfulness, harmony, and responsible living.
Although the founding spiritual leaders are no longer with us, their legacy remains deeply embedded in the Society’s mission and activities. Samma Ajeewa Society continues to carry forward their noble vision by undertaking meaningful projects that serve the Maha Sangha and the wider community with dignity and compassion.
One of the Society’s key initiatives is the development of Seth Sevana, a sanctuary dedicated to supporting monks who travel to Colombo for medical treatment. Through such initiatives, the Society ensures that members of the Maha Sangha receive the care, respect, and environment they deserve during times of need.
Beyond infrastructure and welfare projects, the Society also promotes spiritual growth through meditation programs, counseling, and community engagement activities. It brings together devotees, donors, and volunteers who are united by a shared commitment to serve the Buddha Sasana and contribute positively to society.
Samma Ajeewa Society stands as a lasting tribute to the vision of its founding theros—continuing their mission of compassionate service, spiritual upliftment, and dedication to the well-being of both the Maha Sangha and society at large.
